Glas Restaurant announces Autumn Tasting Event
Malte Half, Head Chef at Glas in Dublin city centre, will be creating a stunning plant-based Tasting Menu on Tuesday, September 17th at 2024 in the restaurant on Chatham Street
‘We strive to be as sustainable as possible,’ says Half who has been head chef at the renowned Dublin vegan restaurant for four years. ‘That means we tweak our menus more or less every month and change them completely every season. We are so lucky in Ireland to have such amazing food producers so we can source the very best seasonal produce and local produce all the time.’
Malte and his team work closely with Irish food suppliers to make sure they are getting the best Irish ingredients possible so they can make veg ‘the star of the show’.
The AUTUMN TASTING EVENING takes place on in the Dublin vegan restaurant on Tuesday, September 17th and will feature a seven-course tasting menu.
While Glas only uses fruit and veg on its menu, Paul Rooney of Glas stresses that the restaurant is not just for those who only eat vegan food or vegetarian food.
‘We love Irish food at Glas – and we want to celebrate great Irish veg. We want to get more and more Irish diners to realise that you don’t have to be vegan or vegetarian to enjoy plant-based dishes. It seems obvious to say it but we all love Irish fruit and veg and eat it every day. So if there happens to be no meat or fish on the plate, should we love it less?’
Some of the stand-out dishes on the Glas Autumn Menus include:
STARTERS:
Fried Cauliflower, Buckwheat Hummus, Almond Crumble, Celery & Truffle Vinaigrette
Cured Turnip Parsnip Croquette, Ume Plum Aioli, Mustard Caviar
MAINS
Roast Shiitake Mushroom, Tapioca Fritter, Smoked Potato Cake, Saffron & Artichoke Veloute
Flamed Red Cabbage, Potato & Truffle Dumpling, Pickled Girolle, Kale Cream
DESSERTS
Saffron Babka, Beetroot Meringue, Fennel Jam, Black Garlic Ice Cream
Caramelized Chocolate Mousse Carrot Brownie, Sour Apple Gel, Sesame Crisp
At the Plant-Based Menu event, there will be an optional wine pairing menu too. Glas has a carefully selected wine list with some vegan wines as well amazing Irish craft beers and, of course, one of the best cocktail menus in the city.
‘There’s an odd perception of vegan dining in Ireland which doesn’t exist elsewhere: that if you don’t have meat with your meal, you won’t want wine or beer or even cocktails before and after. Glas isn’t about that. It’s about enjoying the best veg with great wine and more!’ Rooney says.
The Glas Autumn Tasting Event will take place on Tuesday, September 17th, 2024.
